EDITORIAL MANAGEMENT

An international design competition was organised in 2024–25 to select a new building for the Museum of Architecture and Design in Helsinki. Altogether 624 entries were accepted to the anonymous competition. The competition publication presents evaluations of all the entries, competition background, visions for the new museum, co-creation and participation during the competition, evaluation criteria, design guidelines and more, beautifully illustrated. 168 pages.

EDITORIAL CONCEPT

The editorial concept of the monograph Muller Van Severen: Dialogue, edited by curator Jan Boelen, translates the designer couple's design language into textual form. Unapologetic, the monograph comes without an introduction or explanatory texts, and focuses on the dialogues between the curator, the designers, and the selected architects.

Focused on fashion trade, sustainable fashion, and emerging local designers and labels, the online platform FashionFINLAND.com featured daily news and a wide range of other content. Published in Finnish and English, the publication reached 20,000 monthly readers, collaborated with key fashion and design organisations, and organised various events.

EXHIBITION CONCEPT

The shortlisted exhibition proposal Peacemaker for the Finnish Pavilion at the 17th Venice Biennale of Architecture explored spaces of conflict resolution as an architectural context and challenged the audience to rethink their roles as mediators of peace. The curatorial team comprised participants of an international Design & Peace colloquium organised by the Alvar Aalto Academy.

Enter and Encounter, the main exhibition of 2017 at the Design Museum in Helsinki, focused on the future and posed the question: How does design challenge the present and shape what is to come? The works featured in the exhibition responded to the need for change. The eclectic exhibition offered a glimpse into contemporary Finnish design.

Sound artist Paul Devens' sound installation The Talking Machine uses audio tape as a medium. Originating from old technology, the tape refers to a pre-digital age where forms of diffusion, broadcasting, and propaganda were more tactile than today. Fictional Journal's Issue 2. Propaganda was launched at Atelier Clerici at Milan Design Week 2017 with the installation and a print publication.

Palestine Design Week, organised for the first time in 2026, is a new platform for design in Palestine. Deeply rooted in Palestinian cultural heritage and everyday experience, the main exhibition consists of 40 newly commissioned, multidisciplinary design projects by primarily emerging Palestinian designers, as well as Palestinian–European collaborative projects. The event will take place in Ramallah, Palestine, in September 2026.

The seminar Spaces of Peace: Architecture as Contextual Diplomacy approached conflict resolution and peace-building from an architectural perspective: the role of empathy in architectural design, reconstructing destroyed cities, phenomenology in architecture, and spaces of peace talks. The event was organised as part of Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2019.

The strategic concept development consisted of strengthening the position of Z33 Research artistic research labs as the core of the art institution, and connecting the research studios to the international cultural landscape. As a result, a Z33 Research online publication was created, offering insight into artistic research projects and processes, and giving voice to artists and artistic researchers.
